The Hemis Festival is a popular annual festival celebrated in Hemis Monastery located in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The festival is dedicated to Lord Padmasambhava, who is believed to have founded Tibetan Buddhism. The festival is usually held in the month of June or July every year, depending on the lunar calendar. During the festival, the locals and tourists gather to witness the masked dance performances, known as 'Cham dances', which depict the victory of good over evil. The Hemis Festival is one of the biggest and most colorful festivals celebrated in the Ladakh region and attracts a large number of tourists from around the world.
