Niti Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) is a policy think tank of the Government of India that was established in 2015 to replace the Planning Commission. The Prime Minister of India serves as the Chairperson of Niti Aayog, while its governing council comprises Chief Ministers of all states and Union Territories, along with other members.
The primary objective of Niti Aayog is to provide strategic and policy inputs to the central and state governments to achieve sustainable development goals and promote inclusive growth. It is responsible for formulating medium and long-term development plans, promoting cooperative federalism, and monitoring and evaluating the implementation of government schemes and programs.
In addition to the Prime Minister as the Chairperson, Niti Aayog has a Vice-Chairperson, who is currently Rajiv Kumar, and a CEO, currently Amitabh Kant, who are responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the organization.
