as of September 2021, the Chief Scientist of the World Health Organisation (WHO) was Dr. Soumya Swaminathan. She is an Indian paediatrician and clinical scientist who has previously served as the Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Secretary to the Government of India for the Department of Health Research. Dr. Swaminathan has also worked with the WHO as Coordinator of the UNICEF/WHO/World Bank Joint Programme on Immunization and has been recognized with several awards for her contributions to public health.
