Explanation
The world's first privately funded mission to the Moon was sent by an Israeli company called SpaceIL.
SpaceIL is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2011 by a group of Israeli engineers with the aim of landing an unmanned spacecraft on the Moon. The mission, named "Beresheet," was launched on February 22, 2019, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
The spacecraft traveled a total distance of approximately 6.5 million kilometers before successfully landing on the Moon on April 11, 2019. Although the mission was ultimately unsuccessful in that the spacecraft crashed onto the lunar surface during its landing attempt, it is still considered a significant milestone in space exploration, as it was the first privately funded mission to the Moon.
SpaceIL's mission was also notable for being relatively low-cost compared to other space missions, with a total budget of around $100 million, which was funded by private donations.
